Appeals

Every property owner has the right to file an appeal:

  • If he/she is aggrieved by the assessment on his/her own property or the denial of a property tax deduction or any property tax exemption.
  • If he/she believes that he/she is discriminated against by the assessment on any other property or properties in the same county.

An appeal may be filed with the Cumberland County Board of Taxation or the Tax Court of New Jersey. If your assessed value exceeds $1,000,000, you have the option of filing your appeal directly with the Tax Court.

Appeals must be filed after February 1 and on or before April 1 of the current tax year.
